Tips for Five Star Ford Lincoln Mercury

February 20, 2013

In July of last year I went in to Five Star Ford to look at a few cars. I was greeted by the salesman who was courteous and professional and directed me in purchasing my vehicle. When I stepped inside and sat down with the salesman we found that Five Star Ford didn't have a vehicle with the options I wanted on the lot but they agreed to find one that I wanted. A few minutes later the salesman came back with a build sheet and vin number for a car at another dealership. This car was exactly what I was looking for and even had a couple extra options that I liked. We negotiated price and came to an agreement. The salesman finished my paperwork and told me that my car would be at the dealership in a couple days and they would call me and keep me in the loop. They even gave me a loaner car to drive until my car got to the dealership. All of this was great and I was very satisfied with the dealership up to this point.

This is where things took a turn for the worst. After I left the dealership with the loaner car, I didn't hear anything from them for a couple days. On the third day I called to find out what was going on and they told me "They went out to get your car this morning, we're going to clean it up and have it ready for you tomorrow" Ok, great it took a little longer then I had hoped for, but that was fine. When I drove up to the dealership to pick up my car I saw it sitting up front. When I walked up to the car and inspected it I quickly noticed that this car didn't have any of the extra options that had been on the build sheet they showed me and we negotiated price on. When I asked the salesman what was going on, he kept saying "this is the car we showed you" I had to keep rephrasing my question to get a straight answer out of him. Finally I asked "Does this car have the same VIN number as the one you showed me on the build sheet?" He said "No, but it is the same" I asked why I wasn't told that they couldn't get the car we had discussed, why they didn't keep me in the loop like they said they would. I didn't get an answer.

Basically I was given the bait and switch. I expressed my concern to the salesman and the sales manager and told them that the extra option that wasn't on the car was a $1600 option and we had negotiated price based on the car having that option. All they would do was agree to lower the price $500. I should have walked away. I regret not doing that. I agreed to the price because I was tired of dealing with these crooks and just wanted to get my car and get out of the dealership. Because of they're shady tactics I will never again buy any vehicles from this dealership and I'll never recommend anyone else doing the same.

Poor Service. Everything may seem to be great on the outside, but there are serious problems with the customer service. After spending $4200 on my 2002 Windstar, per the recommendation of the employees at Five Star, my van is having problems that it never had before!! In particular, it makes a horrible noise, that the Service Manager can't seem to "hear"...although other Ford Dealerships can hear it just fine, along with several of his employees! He did "TRY" to fix the problem, by replacing car parts. But everything he did was WRONG...and after 4200$$, the problem is still there. and now, after replacing 3 wrong parts, he wants us to pay to find the problem...that wasn't there prior. Its VERY frustrating! He doesn't return phone calls, and just tells us that we should expect problems out of it...although that wasn't the argument prior to 4200$.

NOT A REPUTABLE COMPANY!! Doesn't stand behind their work! Stay away! Service manager is great while taking your money, but if there are problems afterward....well....I haven't had any problems out of my van, it's in great shape, and we felt that a motor was the solution..but we could've taken the money and put it down on a new vehicle. Now, we are out our savings, and this company has left us with more problems than we started with. Very frustrating...

Most knowledgeable and experienced sales rep ever. Bill was the most knowledgeable and experienced Sales Representative I have ever met. His experience showed as he guided me along the difficult task of purchasing my first vehicle.

They treated me very well. It was an easy experience and I thought everyone was very easy to talk to even with me being as young as I am no one treated me that way. My sales person Mark was awesome.

Ford Motor Co should adopt Five Stars' best practices. Mr. Moore and Mr. Randolph were helpful, courteous and professional in every way. I am sure R. Randolph has a bright future in sales. He is a valuable asset to your organization. Mr. Christian's service department is definately a class act. He and his people listen, act, and follow up. Great technicians too! Ford Motor Co should adopt Five Stars' best practices.

Ken made it happen. Ken helped me twice to find the right car and truck at the price and payment I wanted. He did what he said he would do and made it happen. I bought a 2008 Focus and a 2010 Ranger from him. I told him what I could afford a month with zero down and he got it done.
